Product description:

  • Liquid cooled reflux head providing efficient condensing and refluxing within the RS12 reaction vessels. The gas inlet/evacuation system enables air-sensitive and water-sensitive chemistries. The reflux head has a double-wall insulated design ensuring efficient and uniform cooling across the reflux head while eliminating condensation formation on the outside surfaces of the reflux head. Cooling liquid is introduced through the liquid inlet/outlet ports and circulates to provide uniform cooling across the individual cold fingers, ensuring uniform and maximum reflux performance between the cold fingers and the reaction vessel contents. An integral gas manifold with inlet and outlet ports allows a vacuum to be pulled or gas to be ported into each of the reaction vessels for conducting air-sensitive or water-sensitive chemistries. An effective gas-tight seal is obtained between the reaction vessels and the cold fingers to minimize solvent evaporation losses and assisting in the evacuation through the gas manifold. The unit uses high performance Kalrez 6375 O-rings at the cold finger to reaction vessel interface and robust hastealloy C-22 cold fingers, to provide maximum protection against agressive chemical attack at the interfaces. The reflux head assembly includes a stripper plate which ensures the reaction vessels are retained in the RS12 when the head is removed.

Operation:

  • The reflux head locates on top of the RS12 Reaction Station, after the charged reaction vessels have been inserted into the appropriate cell positions. The Reflux/Inerting assembly consists of firstly a stripper plate placed into position over the loaded vessels, followed by engagement of the Reflux head over the stripper plate and onto locating brackets fixed to the top of the RS12. The Reflux head and its 48 individual cold-fingers are manually pulled down into position using a thumbwheel drive located at the front of the Reflux head body. When fully located, each cold-finger locates into its respective vessel forming a gas-tight seal between the inner surface of the vessel and the 0-ring located around the diameter of each cold finger. Once the Reflux head is fully located the coolant water and gas/vacuum connections should be attached. The septum caps located on the top of each vessel/cold finger position permit either reaction monitoring through the withdrawal of liquids or the addition of reagents during synthesis. An alpha-numeric grid overlay provides simple identification/location of individual reaction vessel positions.

Applications:

  • The chilled water-cooled RS12 Reflux/Inerting head ensures uniform and efficient refluxing in all reaction vessels simultaneously. The integrated gas manifold provides for individual vessel evacuation and inert gas input, coupled with the gas-tight vessel-to-cold-finger O-ring seals, allows reactions under an inert atsmosphere. The use of Hastelloy C-22 for the cold fingers and stainless steel or nickel plating on all other metal surfaces exposed to reagent vapours provides excellent resistance to chemical corrosion.
